Confirmation is a new ceremony for boys and girls, tied to the Spring holiday of Shavuot. It involves a group affirmation of commitment to the Jewish people. Confirmation usually takes place when the student is in grade ten.
Our religious school students complete their formal education at Harford Jewish Center with a confirmation ceremony. Confirmation is the culmination of the tenth grade of their studies. It is accompanied by a group project and the students jointly lead a Friday night service. Each student reads a Torah portion and also gives a speech.
Our students do not disappear after Confirmation. Most of our students typically continue staying actively involved by assisting in religious school, tutoring other b’nai mitzvah students, leading services and more.
Class of 2013
This year’s confirmation occurred on Friday, May 31, 23 Sivan 5773. We were blessed with 8 students reaching this milestone – Hannah Bress, Eli Brown, Allysa Chalmin, Cassie Kinneberg, Lexie MaGee, Stephanie Seeley, Nathan Temple, Missy Way,
The project the students elected to complete was a wall hanging for the Aberdeen Boys and Girls club. The students designed the plaque, agreed on the sayings and then created the actual piece of art. Their hope is that this inspirational piece of art will encourage other students to do their best.
